Hello Graduate Students in AERA Division D,

We are writing with some final tips as you are putting the finishing touches on your proposal for the 2018 AERA Annual Meeting. The deadline  is now less than a week away (due July 24th)! This would be a great opportunity to double-check that your proposal meets all the requirements in the Call, especially the following:

For all Submissions:

  • The exact dead line of submission: July 24, 2017, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. No late submissions will be accepted.

  • AERA, unlike other conferences, requires a complete paper rather than a proposal. Results and discussion are required.  You should upload the most complete version of your paper, subject to word limits.

  • Your submission should be original: submitting the same paper to multiple divisions, SIGs, or committees is not acceptable, nor is submitting a paper has already been published or presented.

  • Even though you want to submit a poster or roundtable, you need to select “paper submission” first (NOT session submission). Then you are able to choose which way you prefer to present your paper. “Session submission” is for a group of people submitting an entire coordinated session, such as a symposium.

  • Double check your word count (not including tables, charts, graphs, images, and references).

    • Title: 15 words or fewer

    • Abstract: 120 words or fewer

    • Paper: 2,000 words or fewer

  • References, tables, charts, graphs, images, and figures should be added to the end of the paper.

  • Paper must be “blind”: failure to remove author identifying information will result in disqualification of the submission.

  • Double-check that your paper is uploaded as a PDF, and that the PDF is correctly formatted, especially tables, figures, and equations.

  • When submitting your paper, please use Chrome or Firefox (the system of AERA is not compatible with IE).

For Submissions to Division D:

  • Papers that focus solely on presenting findings without describing methodological advances or innovative applications are discouraged.

  • Multi-methodological proposals should be submitted to the overall program chair, Kim Koh, at khkoh@ucalgary.ca.

For Submissions to other Divisions or SIGs:

For your reference, the tips included in our first email, and the resources included in our second email  are can be found on our website. Best of luck in preparing and finalizing your submissions for the July 24th deadline! All submitters will be notified on November 1, 2017, whether their submission was accepted or rejected. We look forward to seeing you in New York City in 2018!
