Division D Fireside Chat 2023

Division D fireside chats offer a unique opportunity for session attendees to interact with the session panelists.  Panelists do not present papers, but rather questions may be addressed to the panel for discussion concerning the chosen topic.  A moderator will have questions prepared, but audience members are also free to question the panelists and contribute to the discussion.

Division D Fireside Chat 2023 will be held on April 15th, 2023, Saturday at the AERA 2023 Annual Meeting at InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, Floor: 7th Floor, Empire Ballroom from 8:00 to 9:30 AM CDT.

Our 2023 Fireside Chat Theme Is:

Navigating Job Opportunities and Preparing for Job Markets: Let's Get Ready Together

Our fireside chat seeks to promote the professional development of graduate students by acquainting them with employment scopes, requirements, preparation, and practices suited for a job market dramatically changed by the COVID-19 pandemic. For graduate students, especially those on the verge of completing their degrees, navigating the job market, and completing application processes can be tense and uncertain. International students may face additional struggles due to limited networks. This year, we will provide graduate students with the opportunity to meet early-career professionals in academia and industry to discuss job market and application processes and employment possibilities considering current labor market conditions. Our panelists are recent or soon-to-be graduates who have begun their careers and can provide up-to-date labor market experience.
